We Are Watching (2021-2022)
‘We Are Watching’ comments on the effect of the climate crisis on future generations. Lessing photographed scenes she had constructed using miniatures and public domain images. These scenes show children, who observe the man-made destruction of their planet. The audience is left to wonder what they are feeling.
Ravaged Gardens (2018-2019)
(2019 - 2020)
Lessing found it important to use materials that were accessible and used by the wider public, as she felt there was an elitism inherent in painting. This work carries on from her earlier 'Gardens' collection. Now residing in London, Lessing sourced more materials from online retailers - continuing her goal of using widely accessible materials, focusing now on social problems she encountered living in the U.K. Lessing draws in the audience with the initial aesthetic appreciation of the decorative qualities of the sculptures. As the audience peers closer, the darker, true message is revealed.
